In the Parklands Learning Challenge Cafe, students have been planning ideas for what to make and sell for Festival Day. They have to plan meticulously down to the last detail, including how much the ingredients will cost. With only a budget of £70 in total, it takes careful consideration to make a success of the cafe. Every year this challenge takes place and the idea is to run and open a successful cafe. The idea is to make a profit on the freshly-made goodies, although any that don't sell will definitely still get eaten!
This is Mrs Fox and Miss Flight, who are in charge of the cafe.

We interviewed two students from this class and they said the research they did can be a bit time consuming because you have to find out what ingredients are needed for each recipe. "We have used Google to research ideas for recipes and the ingredients needed." One of the students said getting to know your group and working together can sometimes be actually harder than the cooking as the cooking is not too difficult!
The student we interviewed said he found the decorating tricky as he needed to be precise and careful to avoid making mistakes. |
Here are some action shots of students cooking their food.

On Day 2, in the afternoon, the pupils on the Cafe challenge were placed in the LRC creating a poster to advertise the Cafe that they are making. The cafe will be selling foods that they will be baking on Festival Day.
